The Four Waters of Waikapu, Wailuku, Waiehu, and Waihe'e, Maui Once the largest continguious loʻi kalo region of Hawaiʻi fed by the life giving waters of Kāne within Mauna Kahālāwai. Wailuku Sugar Company redirected the wai that fed the loʻi to irrigate their sugar plantations causing the streams to dry up and devastating the lives of Kānaka. However, the fight to return the streams to the mahi ʻai of Wailuku is far from over. Kānaka continue to fight for the restoration of the streams and to block foreign development desires. This map highlights how the waters should flow and they hit the inhibiting red line of diverted streams. |
